ABOUT THE TEACHERS

Janell Timmany is a graduate of Russell Sage College, where she studied Ballet, Modern, History of Ballet, and Women in Dance, in addition to receiving a degree in Psychology.  She is a school psychologist by trade who has studied dance for 26 years at many local studios.  Ms. Janell attends local and national dance conventions and workshops to keep up with the ever-changing world of dance.  This is her 23rd year teaching dance and 14th year as director of THE DANCE EXPERIENCE.  Prior to opening THE DANCE EXPERIENCE, Ms. Janell taught at local studios where she co-directed and choreographed for a national competition dance team.  She has received awards for her creative choreography as well as her “cute” dances.  Ms. Janell has experience working with all levels of dancers from 3 years to 75 years and from less structured camp settings to highly structured ballet schools.

Erika Edlund will be returning for her tenth year at The Dance Experience where she has studied ballet, tap, lyrical and Musical Theatre. This is her third year as an assistant and first year as a teacher. She is on the competion team and also plays softball at her school.

Audrey Evans and her adult tap class can attest to the fact that you’re never too old to start something new!  Beginning with an adult tap class a long time ago, her dance experience has expanded to include ballet, jazz and modern.  It’s certainly strengthened by attending dance workshops, conventions, and seminars.  Ms. Audrey is a professional statistician who enthusiastically embraces her “fun” job of teaching dance.  For the past 12 years, she has skillfully taught and assisted beginning/intermediate classes for children from preschool to 11 years of age.  She is teaching the adult tappers too!  The energy, creativity and fun she brings to her classes is joyfully resonated by her students as they learn the basic technique and terminology.  We look forward to seeing Ms. Audrey’s uniquely original and entertaining children’s dance routines.

Trisha Miklic began dancing at the age of four. She started taking tap at a local studio in her home town and then discovered ballet and Pointe. Her education in dance expanded as she was introduced to modern dance at SUNY Potsdam (graduating with a major in Dance). While in college, Trisha held a Summer internship at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. During her senior year, Trisha also gained experience by teaching at a local studio in the Potsdam area.  After graduating from college Trisha moved to Chicago. While in Chicago she studied jazz, modern, ballet and Pointe technique at the Joel Hall Dance Center. She also took classes at Lou Conte's studio and the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.  Upon her return back to New York State in 2004 Trisha began teaching dance. She has found teaching to be extremely meaningful. To be able to pass on all that she has learned in dance and to watch her students grow into more knowledgeable and experienced dancers has been very rewarding.

Shannen O’Brien has been dancing with The Dance Experience for 10 years studying ballet, jazz, lyrical and pointe.  She is excited to be returning this year as a teacher and can’t wait to work with Miss Erika and the younger girls. In her spare time, Shannen enjoys being with her friends and playing tennis.

Rachelle Starson was dancing before she even walked. While Rachelle did take dance classes at local studios, she feels her true training started in New Milford CT, where she accepted a scholarship to the School of Performing Arts on the recommendation of her school music teacher. Rachelle has studied ballet, jazz, modern, musical theatre and hip hop. She also studied acting and earned a degree in the Performing Arts-Drama. She toured with Chapmyn Spoken Word for one year, performing in and choreographing a few pieces for Women with Wings and One Race, One People, One Peace. Hip Hop and dance are her true loves (after her family of course) and she enjoys working with children as well. Teaching dance just became the perfect job for this otherwise stay at home mom.
