NEWSLETTERS 2009-2010
MAY 2010 NEWSLETTER
DRESS REHEARSAL
Dress rehearsal will be held on Thursday, June 3rd 5 – 10 PM in the Hart Theater at The Egg in the Empire State Plaza. Dancers should arrive in costume with their hair pulled back and ready to dance. The scheduled times are in the April Newsletter. The schedule is also posted on the website (www.thedanceexperienceofdelmar.com) and at the studio. Dancers should be ready to perform on stage at the designed time. We schedule classes for specific times so that you are not required to sit through 5 hours of rehearsal, but you are invited to stay as long as you like. As a convenience to parents, the rehearsals are not run in the order of the show. Please be sure to arrive on time, as we will have an extremely tight schedule! Dancers should sit in the audience with their classes when they arrive. Someone will call them backstage when it is time for them to dance.
END OF YEAR PERFORMANCES
The end of year performances will be held at The Egg on Friday June 4th at 6:30 PM
Saturday June 5th at 10:00 AM Saturday June 5th at 1:30 PM
Dancers should arrive in their first costume by 6:00 for the 6:30 show, 9:30 for the 10:00 show, and 1:00 for the 1:30 show; the doors to the theater will not be open prior to this time. Seating for audience members will also begin at this time from the Hart Theater Lobby level. Remember to sit in the seats for which your tickets were purchased. Please do not sit in the seats that are marked reserved. Each show will be approximately 2.5 hours or less.
If you choose not to stay until the finale, dancers can be picked up back stage outside of the dressing room after their final class dance on the stage level. Please notify the class volunteer that you are taking your child. Children will also have to be signed out. For those dancers who stay for the entire performance, a section will be reserved in the front and/or side of the audience. Younger dancers can sit in the audience on their parents’ laps after they dance, if you so choose.
PARKING
Parking is available under the Empire State Plaza in the P2 North and P3 North Visitor’s Lots. If other events are going on, there will be a sign indicating that visitors can use additional lots. All adults must show a picture id to security upon entering the parking area and there is a $5 charge each time you enter the visitors parking area. There is also free on-street parking in the area (Madison Ave and State St), although you may have to walk a distance. Please note that the Freihofer’s Run for Women is also on Saturday June 5th at 10 and the Health & Fitness Expo is the same day on the Concourse level of the Empire State Plaza. Additional parking is also available in the East Parking Garage (multi-level garage across from the Cathedral at the corner of Madison Ave and Eagle) if the Visitor’s lots are full. It is about a 10 minute walk from this garage to The Egg and can be done under cover from rain if necessary.
ONLY 1 VOLUNTEER PARENT WILL BE ALLOWED BACKSTAGE FOR EACH CLASS.
We have volunteers who will assist your child with any personal needs during the show. We will find you in the audience if there are any problems that only the parent can solve.
* No videotaping will be allowed, except for Best Bytes Media! Individuals will be asked to leave the theater if they are videotaping.
- PLEASE ENTER AND EXIT THE THEATER BETWEEN DANCE NUMBERS ONLY! Movement in the audience during performances is extremely distracting to the performers and the audience members. Audience members are not allowed to utilize the back stage entrances. Only dancers and volunteers will be utilizing these doors. All other audience members must use the elevators to move from the stage/dressing room level to the lobby/audience entrance.
- PLEASE be respectful of the dancers and other audience members – NO TALKING DURING PERFORMANCES.
- Dressing rooms will be assigned for each class.
- NO FATHERS, OR OTHER MALES, WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE FEMALES DRESSING ROOMS. There will be a separate dressing room for the males. Please ask a female to retrieve someone from the girl’s dressing room, if necessary. PLEASE remind all males attending the end of year performance of this…we want to avoid embarrassing moments!
- ALL DANCERS MUST BE PICKED UP and signed out BACKSTAGE (via elevators) AT THE END OF THE FINALE. Audience members must use the elevators to access the stage/dressing room level. The stairs are for emergency use and you cannot access the backstage/dressing room level from the stairs.
- Please remind the dancers to remain backstage until you are there to meet them.
- NO UNDERWEAR SHOULD BE WORN UNDER TIGHTS! Adolescents and adults should wear nude colored appropriate undergarments, as necessary.
- Shoes should be clean and CLEARLY LABELED WITH THE DANCERS FIRST NAME. Our volunteers may not know initials or last names. Each year we end up with shoes that are not labeled.
- Girls - Hair must be pulled back off of the dancers’ faces, preferably in a bun. Even short hair needs to be pulled back!
- Make-up, including lipstick, blush, and eye shadow, must be worn by all dancers so that they do not look washed out under the harsh stage lights.
- Please silence all cell phones.
All of the dancers have practiced many hours to learn their routines. A respectful, yet active audience is appreciated and encourages the performers to give it their all. Please show your appreciation for all of their hard work through applause and by abiding by these requests.
